The Pass Program
Partnership for Achieving Student-Athlete Success
Mission: Increase the success and retention rate of Student-Athletes by providing targeted, collaborative, and accessible surrounding support.
The Gavilan College Athletics Department has partnered with our English and Math Departments to bring the PASS Program to fruition. As part of the program, our Student-Athletes and PASS Instructors will build a learning community which nurtures and engages one another, both in and outside of the classroom.
Our goals in the PASS Program are to:
- Provide an imaginative and nurturing community of learners, fostered through rigorous scholarship, creativity, and personal and professional development.
- Provide a community of inclusiveness and mutual respect.
- Recognize and validate the unique experiences (including both benefits and challenges) that Student-Athletes face.
- Recognize and affirm the strengths and infinite potential of our Student-Athletes.
- Provide opportunities to practice and apply transferable student study and support-seeking skills.
- Equip Student-Athletes with time and space for taking ownership of their own learning.
- Provide opportunities for students to be resources for one another.
- Engage in socially and culturally relevant practices and principles.
- Collaborate for the academic, emotional, and social growth of each Student-Athlete through quality and purposeful educational experiences in and out of the classroom.
