Rams come up short in five-set loss at San Jose City
SAN JOSE – Trailing 2-0 after the first two sets at San Jose City College, the Gavilan College women's volleyball team won the next two but couldn't complete a come back and suffered a tough five-set loss to the Jaguars on Wednesday.
The 25-20, 25-21, 22-25, 20-25, 15-13 defeat dropped the Rams to 0-3 to start the 2023 season.
But the Rams are showing improvement under new head coach Erica Chapa Slayday. Gavilan won its first two sets of the year at SJCC after dropping consecutive 3-0 matches to College of Marin and West Hills College Lemoore last week.
Sophomore Adrianna DeMario led the Rams' offense in San Jose as she posted 10 kills. She also added 15 assists, 5 digs, and a block. Freshman Maya Dizon also had a solid match with 7 kills, 15 assists, and 12 digs.
Camila Gonzalez, Alyssa Newman, and Rachel Gregory Llanes all had 15 digs each.
The Rams return to action on Sep. 15 when they travel to De Anza College for a pair of matches vs. Contra Costa College (2 p.m.) and host De Anza (4 p.m.).
