A Split to Start
The Gavilan College Volleyball team opened their 2022 season with a pair of matches while participating in the College of Marin Classic yesterday and came away with a win in their first match of the day.
Facing the home team Mariners, the Rams used strong serving and a strong defensive effort to come away with a 3-0 victory winning by a score of 25-21, 25-20, 25-19. Freshman Anna Demario led the team offensively with 11 kills, with contributions by sophomores Maria Brozic 7 kills and Emma Fong 6 kills. Freshman setter Teresa Brozic had 18 assists while leading the team with 6 aces. Two Rams had double digit digs, previously mention Teresa Brozic had 10 while freshman libero Kiki Heredia led the way with 14.
In the second match of the day, the Rams took on the Panthers of Sacramento City College. The Panthers got off to a quick start in the first set taking an early lead and never giving it up taking the set by a score of 25-16. After the first set, that Rams got their legs back underneath them, going toe to toe with the Panthers. In the second and third sets, the Rams actually were the first team to 20 points, but were unable to seal the deal in either set losing both by a 26-24 score. Once again Demario lead the way with 11 kills, the only Ram in double digits.
Gavilan will back in action on Saturday, as the participate in the Ohlone Classic. They will take on Feather River College at 3 pm followed by a match with host school Ohlone at 5 pm. Friday September 9, will be date the Rams have their first home match as they host Las Positas College. Go Rams!
