Rams suffer tough loss at Siskiyous
WEED – A 32-yard touchdown reception by Logan Harris from quarterback Mason Pound proved to be one of the few highlights for Gavilan College in a 42-7 loss at College of the Siskiyous on Saturday afternoon.
The Rams are 0-2 to start the 2024.
The Gavilan defense held its own during the opening quarter, limiting Siskiyous to just seven points. But the Eagles exploded in the second, putting up 21 points to go up 28-0.
But a big defensive play led to the Rams lone touchdown. With COS driving late in the second quarter, James Mamaiapili forced a fumble on a run that was recovered at the Gavilan 30-yard line.
The Rams took over with just under a minute left in the half. After a pair of unsuccessful pass plays, Pound connected with Messiah Allen with a 39-yard pass to get into Siskiyous' territory. That was followed by another long pass, this one to Harris for the 32-yard touchdown with 50 seconds remaining before the break.
Pound completed 10 of 20 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown. Allen had 2 receptions for 54 yards and Houstyn Lee-Perry led the Rams on the ground with 19 carries for 62 yards..
Taku Diamond once again had a team-high 10 tackles while Mamaiapilli added 9 tackles.
Gavilan will look to earn its first win next Saturday (Sep. 21) when the Rams host Yuba College. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Gilroy High School's Mustang Stadium.
