Rams open conference play with win over No. 6 Ohlone

GILROY – A sixth-run, fourth-inning rally proved huge as Gavilan College opened its Coast Conference South Division schedule with a 10-6 win over No. 6 state-ranked Ohlone College on Tuesday.

Eric Rodriguez and Orlando Lewis both drove in two runs each to lead the Rams at the plate while Mason Pound closed out the contest by pitching 4 2/3 innings, allowing no earned runs (2 unearned) and three hits.

"It was a big win for the team today in our first conference game," said Gavilan head coach Rob Sanchez. "The squad brought the energy, showed great heart, and executed when it mattered most."

The Rams outhit Ohlone 13-9. Dayton Anderson (2 for 5), Noah Kang (2 for 5), Ricky Wilkerson (2 for 4), and Lewis (2 for 3) all had two hits each.

Ohlone lost for just the fourth time this season and fell to 17-4 overall. With the win, the Rams snapped a four-game losing streak and moved to 6-15.

The two squads resume their three-game Coast Conference series on Thursday (Mar. 13) with Game 2 at Ohlone, starting at 2:30 p.m. The series concludes when it returns to Gavilan on Saturday (Mar. 15) at 1 p.m.
