Rams start off with a bang

The Gavilan Rams volleyball hit the road to take part in the Los Medanos Quad Classic, where they would take on host Los Medanos and fellow Bay Valley Conference power Solano College. Just like the previous two classics the Rams have taken part in, they came away with a split, defeating Los Medanos in three sets and losing to Solano in the sets.

In the opener against the host Mustangs, the Rams got off to an earlier lead and never looked back winning by a score of 25-9, 25-23 and 25-14.  It was an evenly distributed offense that setter Teresa Brozic ran handing out 21 assists. Anna Demario and Makenna Deeth led the way with 6 kills, with middle Sarah Polanco finishing with 5 kills of her own. Libero Kiki Heredia had 26 digs while Jasmine Lopez controlled the back line with 10 digs. Deeth had 4 aces while getting the chance to serve for the first time this season.

While the Rams got out to a quick led in the first match, it was the reverse scenario in the second match of the day. As a team the Rams hit -.035, their worst outing of the year, which helped contribute to the 25-10, 25-15, 25-15 loss. Demario and Deeth had 5 kills a piece while middle Maria Brozic had 4. Heredia had 20 digs, while Jasmine Lopez and Yaileen Lopez both had 8.

The Rams are now 4-3 this season, with one more preseason match on the schedule. Next Wednesday Gavilan will host Skyline College in the final Coast Conference Cross-Over match with first serve scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Go Rams!
