Team Huddle at the Ohlone Classic

Double the Wins

It took one match for the Gavilan College women's volleyball team to match their win total from a year ago. After four matches they have doubled the win total after participating in the Ohlone Classic this past Saturday. In the first match the Rams took on perennial state championship contender Feather River, losing in straight sets. Then after dropping the opening set to host Ohlone, Gavilan came back to life to win the next three set giving them a 3-1 win.

Against Ohlone it was Anna Demario, as it has been all season, leading the way with 15 kills, while sophomore Makenna Deeth had a career high 12 kills in her first season as an outside hitter. Freshman setter Teresa Brozic had her second double double of the season as she handed out 33 assists to go with 12 digs and four aces. Leading the team in digs was freshman libero Kiki Heredia who had 13 with Jasmine Lopez also found herself in double digit digs with 10. Lopez also led the team in aces with 5. The Rams won the match by a score of 21-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-10.

While the end of the day was a success, the start to the day was the complete opposite. Taking on a team that won a state championship just two seasons ago, the Eagle of Feather River are ready to make another run at it by the looks of it. They took a quick 7-1 lead and never looked back defeating Gavilan by a score of 25-9, 25-8, 25-16. Demario had 7 kills with Deeth was the only other Ram with more than two kill finishing with 3. Heredia finished with 14 digs, Brozic had 9 assists.

The Rams will be back in action this Friday for their home opener as they take on Las Positas College. First serve is scheduled for 6:30! Go Rams
